Convention Banquet of the
![]()
Hosted by The Lafayette Professional Firefighters Association
February 2-4, 2006 Lafayette was proud to host the 60th Annual Convention of the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana. Friday's opening ceremonies included words of welcome from Council Chairman Rob Stevenson, Councilman Bruce Conque, Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Donna Landry and President - CEO Rob Guidry, & Fire Chief Robert Benoit. Once again we were honored by a visit from General President Harold Schaitberger. Upon arrival Harold was whisked away by luxury motor coach with the Lafayette and PFFA of LA executive boards to visit Fire Station #5. The surprise visit included a complete tour of the station with Harold inquiring about staffing and finally checking the labels on our gear to verify NFPA compliance. We then traveled to Parc San Souci to visit the 911 memorial and dine on a meal prepared by Lafayette's cooking team, Team Inferno. The meal consisted of Jambalaya, crawfish stuffed pistolletes, cracklins, fried sweet potatoes, bacon seasoned green beans, & corn. Harold said that he normally eats only once a day and then asked me to hide his plate so he could go through the line for seconds as if the cooks wouldn't notice and needless to say, they were very pleased. Saturday, Harold gave an inspiring speech about the business of the IAFF and reminded us to get to work. The banquet co-key note speakers were Senators Don Cravins and Sherri Smith Cheek. Senator Cravins was sick and got out of bed to attend and as usual he gave a rousing speech. Senator Cheek was delighted to attend and expressed her gratitude for the job we do. The MDA awards are always a hit but with local director Kelly Allgood presenting and Lafayette winning 1st place in statewide MDA contributions for the first time in our history, this year is special. After all, Kelly is responsible for motivating us so this award is hers too. With all the details to attend to we managed to take a few photos and they are posted below. Please send any photos you would like posted! |
